In Feb. 2023, I did sessions for GEO (Global Educators Organization) and ITECC (International TESOL Education and Consultancy Corp.) in Bacolod, Philippines. This page contains links and information related to that session.

Introduce "The Science of Happiness" (positive psychology) to your students with this Happiness Dictation.
You'll also want this handout with over 25 "happiness in ELT" activities.

These are links to short (less than 10-minute) Positive Psychology in ELT activities. They are mainly for classroom use but many are useful to make use of positive psychology in your own life.
• 3 minutes for positivity. 16 short fluency topics that focus on gratitude, mindfulness and savoring. There is also a suggestion at the end of the handout for taking the topics deeper.
• 10 minutes for happiness. Short positivity activities. Consider using them for warm-ups or just a change of page.
• Time Confetti. Quick activities, suggested by other teachers and by students.
• Main activity Download Center. My website has dozens of "positive psychology activities for ELT." Look around. See what looks interesting for you and your students.

Actually all positive psychology activities are related to brain science. These do so in very clear, easy-to-understand ways.
I'm part of the JALT (Japan Association for Language Teaching) MIND/ BRAIN / EDUCATION SIG (Special Interest Group). We publish a monthly magazine, Think Tank filled with ideas for teaching with brain science. Click on the link for all the back issues. It is FREE to subscribe (see the last page of any issues.).

The mind and body are totally connected. And our bodies were not meant to sit through a 60 or 90 minute class (or worse, faculty meeting). These are short physical activities you can use with your students.
• Energy Breaks are short (5 minutes or less) physical activities that include a bit of brain science at a level students can understand. I use them to add physical activities to regular English classes. There are about 17 posted so far.
• Activities for kids. Similar to the above, but aimed at younger learners.
• I have a webpage of Warm-ups and Tasks for non-English majors. Scroll down to the section for Physical Education/Sports for more activities.
• Meditation isn't the same, but it is related to physical activity. Several links here.

Phones are convenient. But they are also addictive. Here is some of the information about smartphones introduced in the session. I am not against phones. I just want to be aware of what they are doing to my own brain, and my students.
• HERE are the PowerPoint slides (in PDF form) I used in the workshop.
• A non-scientific "how to" article on limited phone use.
• Does social media cause depression? Not limited to phone, but a simple article for people interested.

In psychology, "savoring" means to really notice and even enhance an experience. We are all so busy we often don't appreciate the good things in our lives. These are some ways to do so.
• The section of my website on savoring.
• I usually introduce savoring with a "guided journey" (like a "guided visualization" about eating a blueberry with mindfulness. Sometimes I do it with chocolate. Any food they like will work. If actual food isn't practical, here is a script for imagining eating a banana with mindfulness.

You are the kind of teacher who comes to workshop and looks at educational webpages. That probably. means you are the kind of teacher who "crafts" their own job to make it more satisfying.
HERE's an article to help you get started.
There are 3 main ways to approach job crafting: Here are some link that might help. .
Task crafting: 10 minutes for happiness
Relationship crafting: Maslow's Hierarchy and University Part-Timers.
Cognitive crafting: Warm-ups/Tasks for non-English majors

Friday handouts. On the last day of the conference, I did a talk called, "This is your brain on happiness: A chemical story." There are two handouts:
